Case Study Vehicle Mount Terminals
Challenge
Storing, retrieving and order-picking goods is a daily task, even in deep freeze areas. Temperatures can be as low as -30°C. A difference in temperature of up to 40°C between the environment and where the vehicle terminals are operating is not unusual. This results in heavy condensation for vehicles and the terminals. A special integrated heating method was developed for vehicle terminals MFT920 and MFT960 to make them suitable for use in deep freeze applications.
Approach to a Solution
With the MFT920 our customers are operating a vehicle terminal that withstands very large temperature fluctuations and very low temperatures. With integrated heating and protection rating IP65, the vehicle terminal can be used for work day in and day out, even in temperatures as low as -30 °C. The interfaces are completely sealed off, and since the power supply is inside the device, all the electronic components are heated automatically. The temperature inside the device is recorded by an internal micro controller. After the temperature drops to a certain level, the heating is activated. Arranged over a large area, it heats the device to a specified temperature. When the desired temperature is reached, the heater turns off fully automatically. An internal fan ensures circulation of heated air inside the device.
Result
Our customer is very satisfied with the operation of the MFT920. Thanks to the integrated heater, the vehicle terminal can be operated at temperatures as low as -30°C and the inside of the display will not fog up, even with temperature variations in the working environment. The MFT920 is used worldwide in our customer’s retail business in deep freeze applications. The vehicle terminal can be used in deep freeze areas with no problems for very extended periods and withstands changes between temperature zones with no limitations.
