Our M2Smart® HMI family is complete!

After the successful certification of the 10-inch version, the M2Smart® HMI10, last summer, the 5-inch version, the M2Smart® HMI5, has now also been officially tested, certified and approved for sale by TÜV SÜD. With the certification of our M2Smart® HMI5 and the M2Smart® Gateway o, our HMI family is now complete!

The mobile and wireless M2Smart® HMI5 is the most compact HMI in our M2Smart® HMI series. With its handy design and a display in the 5-inch smartphone form factor, we have managed to transfer the familiar operating philosophy of a consumer smartphone to the operation of machines and systems in an industrial environment. One factor that helps users to find their way around intuitively from the outset when using the HMI is that we use Android as operating system for our HMIs. To ensure that Android can be used for operating machines and systems in industry, some modifications to the operating system are required. ACD Elektronik has even gone one step further and developed its own extra secure Android version, Android Industrial+. In this version, all external services and accesses have been removed from the source code so that no data can be unintentionally transferred to third parties. In addition, the entire code is hosted on ACD Elektronik servers in Germany. To ensure that the M2Smart® HMI5 is not only intuitive to use but can also be worn and used for long periods of time with as little fatigue as possible, the mechanical buttons required for industrial applications, such as the illuminated emergency stop and enabling button, have been ergonomically integrated into the device. For example, during the design of the device, attention was paid to ensuring that the enabling switch can be operated easily with the right thumb or the left index finger, depending on which hand the device is held.

One of the most important topics in the control of machines and systems in an industrial environment is functional safety. With a mobile and wireless operating device such as our M2Smart® HMI5 or M2Smart® HMI10, data security and secure data transmission are particularly important. To ensure this, the safety-related data are transmitted via BT-compatible short-range radio between the HMI and a gateway connected to the machine, the M2Smart® Gateway. This radio link is secured via black channel. A BT-compatible short-range radio is also available for the transmission of non-safety-related data, or alternatively, the data can also be transmitted via WiFi.

The gateway, which is connected to the safety PLC of the machine, is available in two versions. The M2Smart® Gateway i for the installation in the control cabinet, which has been certified by TÜV SÜD for several months now, and, most recently, the M2Smart® Gateway o, which was developed for the installation outside of a control cabinet. This is now also TÜV SÜD certified and available immediately. There are no functional differences between the two gateways; the M2Smart® Gateway o is only optimized for use outside of a control cabinet and therefore has a slightly higher protection class. All mobile and wireless operating devices in the M2Smart® HMI family can be combined with any M2Smart® Gateway. This allows you to decide flexibly and individually which gateway should be attached to which machine.

With the successful passing of the TÜV SÜD tests and the associated final certification, our M2Smart® HMI5 and M2Smart® Gateway o are now officially on sale, making our HMI family complete. ACD Elektronik is now able to offer a full range of TÜVcertified mobile HMI solutions. The wireless and mobile 5-inch variant perfectly complements the portfolio and ensures that ACD Elektronik can provide a suitable operating device for every application. As usual, a wide range of accessories is also available, including replacement batteries, various holders with charging options and a large number of suitable apps, so that the devices can be perfectly adapted to the respective individual requirements.
