Development of a Terminal for Controlling Surgical Microscopes

Case Study

Surgical Microscopes in the Field of Eye Surgery

The development of a terminal for controlling surgical microscopes in the field of eye surgery focused on ease of use. This medical device also needed an option for loading videos via a composite and an HDMI interface and displaying them on the operator terminal.

Procedure

The display control was developed based on Windows CE, which ACD also uses for the mobile data acquisition devices of the M2xx series. After videos are loaded they are scaled so they always appear in full-screen mode. The components for the development of the terminal were selected according to where it will be used (disinfection by chemicals, glove operation, etc.).
Extensive burn-in tests are carried out to ensure quality.

Result

The result is an elegant, user-friendly terminal that is already successfully in use for various microscope types worldwide.
