Via a “functionally safe” radio connection, it is possible for the first time to meet the requirements of, for example, the Machinery Directive in terms of safety equipment of a machine even with a wireless operating system. Both the emergency stop button, which is obligatory in this environment, and a three-stage enabling button are located directly on the handheld and the corresponding signals, packaged in an encrypted “data packet”, are transmitted via Bluetooth to the M2Smart® Gateway, which takes over the transfer of the data to the machine. A major focus here is on the usability of the system.

M2Smart® HMI5
The M2Smart® HMI5 is an innovation for the safe and flexible operation of industrial plants and machines. Where previously stationary or wired operating systems had to be used, the M2Smart® HMI5 with the associated safety components offers completely new possibilities. Via a “functionally safe” radio link, it is now possible for the first time to meet the requirements of the Machinery Directive, for example, in terms of the safety equipment of a machine with a wireless operating system. Both the emergency stop button, which is obligatory in this environment, and a three-step enabling switch are located directly on the M2Smart® HMI5 and the corresponding signals, packaged in an encrypted “data packet”, are transmitted via Bluetooth to the M2Smart® Gateway, which takes over the transmission of the data to the machine. A major focus is on the usability of the system. The concept for the entire HMI system is certified by the German TÜV and is suitable for safety level 3 to PLd. Furthermore, the HMI system can be described as an “open system”, i.e. the application is almost independent of the control hardware and software used.
Modularity for more flexibility
The M2Smart® HMI5 is the first system on the market that transfers the operating philosophy of a consumer tablet to an industrial device with a high level of security. As an open system, the M2Smart® HMI5 can be integrated into all conceivable control architectures for the first time. In contrast, competitive devices on the market are usually system-bound. As a modular, scalable system that can be adapted to specific requirements, it is unique on the market. The modules can be changed easily and without tools. The individual modules are automatically recognized by the device after installation. No settings or configurations are necessary to insert the module.
